RE: 7x57 Mauser
Right now I have a .22 LR,.30-30, .270 Win, and two .30-06's -- as you can tell I like tried and true calibers. The reason why I don'thave anything biggerisbecause I'm not really fond of recoil. A .300 Win Mag is about max for me, and after a few rounds, I've had it. I've looked at recoil charts, and the 7x57 is similiar to the .270 Win for recoil, which is very managable.
The barrel on one of my'06 is getting pretty bad, but the action and stock are fine.
After looking at many different cartridges, I seem to like the ballistics and capabilities of the 7x57. I also read that the 7x57 is what the USGovernment used to create the.30-'03, and later the .30-'06, so it has great company, and I don't think that I'll have to modify the bolt face. I also hand load, so it will be fun to have another gun to work up some new rounds.
