Default RE: Lube for hunting patches????????

ORIGINAL: HEAD0001

We used "Spit Patches" for many many years. A spit patch will work great, however you need to shoot the ball out every day or you can get a small rust ring-I did not like this idea so I switched to Bore Butter.

Any grease product is going to thicken a bit in the cold weather-that is just the nature of grease. Give it a quick rub between your fingers, or put it on the patch and rub it in(or a snuff can already greased). It would be alright to make some-but I have just never been motivated to do so. But then I am not thepurist type. If I was then I would use bear grease.Tom.
i still use bore butter patch in summer but not very much on it.

but in winter,NO WAY.been there done that.

i dont shoot much in winter and use powerbelt now in deer season over a patch/ball.

but if i did,i would use HOPPES BLACKPOWDER PLUS for on my patch.

itwill not freeze and it lubes/cleans at same time.

i have bottle for 10 years and its still 3/4 full as i only use it in winter on patch,it works real good.

also the bore butter smells in woods.

i think a old buck or old doe will pick up this borebutter smell as being not normal,no doubt in my mind on that.

so, i wont use it .
