Why use these heavy bullets for deer?????
The same can be said for a 300 RUM!
I like the heavy bullets because of performance. The bullets I mentioned all have a high BC which equates to better down range energy, less drag and less wind drift. All that equals better accuracy. The performance of a 300 RUM is just begging to use heavy bullets. I guess if you buy a RUM you didn't buy it because the ammo was cheap in the first place
Even if you compare a 180gr kicking at 3300fps with a conservatively low BC of .4 to a 220gr kicking at 2950fps with a high BC of .52, you still have TOF (time of flight) less with the 180gr bullet at 500 yards. You only see TOF better for the 220gr mk at 1000 yards with only mildly better wind drift. Put it in your bullistics calculator and see.
