Around here the gills are always in water from 3' deep to about 12'. Most average they are in about 6-8'. I will go on 2" of clear black ice. If snow covered I like at least 3" since I can't see the bad spots. I need at least 6" for me to take my wheeler out on it and 10-12" before I use the truck.
