you might want to consider a .243 or 25-06. Both of them are similar to the Roberts in terms of recoil and power, however the ammo will be much easier to find. I know i only see .257 rounds in the bigger stores and even then there are not very many choices. I know there is a dedicated following that loves the Roberts but I think its dying a slow death in terms of popularity. If you are buying your a girl a rifle she may use for the rest of her life a .243 or 25-06 might be a bit more practical. As far as the round in an of itself it is a great deer round and does not have much in the way of recoil, so other then its waning popularity it would be a very good choice.
