About any hand call, enclosed reed style, is a great beginner call that will work. I've got over 100 calls, mostly custom,that I could take anyone of them and call predators. If you don't have any idea of what sounds to make, then you need to find a source to at least hear the sounds that you want to come close to. You don't have to sound exactly like super star joe blow that you see in the videos.
Remingtonguy has a nice summary of what to do. If you don't have a lot of ground to hunt, sit in one spot for 30 minutes and call off and on. If ya got lots and lots of land to hunt, sit and call for 15 minutes and if nothing shows, move to the next spot.
