I've been a gun hunter for a long time & am looking to get into bowhunting since I am moving into the country where I will have time to practice. I'm 6'1" 220lbs. What would be a good bow to start out with, trying to keep the cost down? I do want to be able to hunt deer with it, mostly from a stand.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
I was in the exact same position as you about two weeks ago. I've gone to three shops and shot probably 20 different bows. I am going to make my purchase tommorow. I've decided on the Hoyt Powerhawk. It is about $479 new and I loved the way it shot for the price. The only bows that felt better to me was over $800.

Good Luck. I can't wait till tommorow.
Just curious? Did you shoot the Ross Carnivore?

Dan
I did but for some reason the grip didn't feel comforable to me. I also like the history of reliability that I have been told goes with the Hoyt name.

Nothing against the Carnivore as that would be a fine bow and not suggesting the Powerhawk is the greatest thing ever. My point was simply that I shot a lot of bows before I made a decision.
