Anyone else do this? I actually did this when I bought my savage 10 ML ,cause I really hated the factory syn. stock, so I bought a 95$ B&C duramax stock ,made for varmint model savages. It fit great but no hole for the ramrod, so I just packed it separate, while hunting. I eventually sold that and bought a factory laminate stock, and put the thimble and ramrod back on.
Now that the season is over, I took them off again, just to se how it would look again , along w/ the completely useless sights, and looks pretty cool a,nd seems to noticably cut down on weight . Im sure itll improve accuracy too, since there will be less interference w/ barrel harmonics.
Thoughts?
I don't think it will make a difference at 100 yards, now 200 and you could have some differences on POI with and W/O the ram rod, I don't think it will be over 1/2' though. Where do ya carry the ram rod when hunting?I like a beautiful rifle, but practical hunting says function over beauty. The ram rod and thimble cut down noticably on weight, if your worried about go back to the B&C, much lighter than the Laminate. If your a tree stand hunter, I don't think weight is a big deal. If your a spot and stalk type of hunter then that wight is a big deal.
