RE: Stevens Model 200
I have an older model 112 that was a Christmas gift some years ago, it was a package gun in 270 win.
I didn't like it because I couldn't get a decent group, 1-3/4"- 2" was as good as I could get.
I sent it back to Savage and wanted them to fix the gun, well they sent it back to me with a 5/8" group and ask me just how much better did I feel it should do.
Then I decided to try another brand of bullet, I got some Hornady sst's I think it was and my groups shrank to sub moa without any other changes.
I had been using Nosler ballistic tips in everything else I owned for so long that I didn't consider the possibility that this gun wouldn't shoot them. Now I have a Savage heavy 223 that will not shoot the 60 gr. Nosler Partition, and that is a shame for it would bea good choice for a deer bullet in that caliber.
That in turn led me to try the Speer 70 gr simi spitzer, and now I feel it is the best bullet for medium game use in the 223 caliber, I doubt the partition will out penetrate it on deer.
