I think you would be well served with a Marlin 1895 45/70, I have one and it has became the rifle I most often reach for when heading to the woods.
But first, do you have a fire proof gun safe, if not I'd recommend you getone.
A good friend of mine lost his home 12/19/08, in it was two Fal's,two Winchester M1 Grands, one M1A1 national match,a Marlin 336, two Glock pistols, one 1911 45 ,one Winchester pump shotgun, and approx 9,000 rounds of ammo. He didn't think it would ever happen to him.
