Just as no evidence exists supporting the notions that shotgun slugs are somehoe safer than rifles, no evidence, other than unsupported perceptions exist that semi auto rifles pose any additional safety hazard.

That being said, the law is the law and disobeying it just because it may not be to one's liking is not the way to handle things. If a law is bad, lobby to have it changed. Unless the law is unconstittutional and you have $millions to spend, disobeying the law will just get you arrested.
