Default RE: question for you guys that have been to alaska's PWS

Basically only Islands that have Brown Bears are the two mentioned above and they aregood areas for deer. area around Cordova will have bears as well.
most of the other islands have only black bears. deer populations are down after 2 hard winters.
if you have your own boat it would be best but is a long way out the those islands. there are cabins (forest service) on those islands that can be rented. but close by those gets hunted heavier. if not have a high quality 4 season tent, tarps and quality gear.
weather is a major factor that time of year. wind, rain and snow.like you have probably never seen before..PWS gets 150-300 inches of rain and snow / year. depending on what part. Be prepared to be out a week or more longer that you want to be. especially if being dropped off by airplane.( food and fuel) Itcan be very miserable hunting conditions.
second factor is not alot of sun light....short days.
portable Marine VHF radio will allow you to listen to weather reports and call Coast Guard or near by boat if you have problems.
get or make blacktail doe bleat call......could help alot with deer and bears.
no expandable broadheads for Brown bears.
applying for drawing bear tag on Kodiak might be better 1st choice ...having PWS as back up.
i would probably pick Hinchenbrook.
as previouslystated you have to be a Resident or have a guide. if you are not already in the state 2 months or more you would not qualify.....unless you have close relative that is a resident, but if that was the case you probably would not be asking for help here.

good luck Pat
