i have the frontier bear tooth mag from CVA,have tried various loads and bullets gun is not acurate at all,24" barrel ,if i load 240 gr. xtp hornady pistol bullet with sabbot,is my only accurate load,is this enough to kill deer?-35 grains of tripple 777-if i add any more powder at all lose accuracy, also shot balls up around 300+gr. no accuracy?
Chuckell a friend of mine bought her son one of them rifles. She asked me to help sight it in and to teach him to use it safe. So we started out getting all the oil out of the barrel first before we shot. We did that swabbing with alcohol. Then I had him load 80 grains of Pyrodex RS and a 240 grain Hornady XTP. At 50 yards that little rifle was stacking them things. He also tried a 245 grain Powerbelt with the same load, and again, excellent accuracy.
Since 50 yards is an average shot around here that was good enough for him. He took a nice doe that year at 30-35 yards with I believe a powerbelt and knocked her flat. He said it hit her right where he was aiming.
If I were you, I would start trying different powders. Some rifles hate Triple Seven. Try some Pyrodex or APP and stick with the 240 and 300 grain Hornady XTP's. Start your shooting at 80 grains and see what happens..
