RE: Where is the best public land in Texas?
I have been doing research on Texas for a hunt (peccary) and have found that there is a huge amount of public land to hunt on in Texas! The wildlife office has sent me alot of information and I combine that with info obtained off the internet. I would recommend that you take the time to really plan a hunt like this out completely as there is alot for us non-residents to know... where ever you may go to hunt. I don' t believe that there is any state that is not crowded on state property but a well planned and executed hunt can bring alot of enjoyment. If you contact the Texas wildlife dept. they will send you a wildlife viewing guide or you can purchase it through the Falcon Press at 1-800-582-2665. This shows a numerous amount of State Park and Forest area open to the public... and hunting... then you can cross referance this to an area you are interested in and possibly take a drive there and do some scouting. I live in Ct. so to drive there before my hunt is probably not going to happen but with a TOPO (delorme 4.0) of the area and all the info obtained through different sources has made me feel right at home!!! Good luck with your hunt and I hope some of this has helped.[:-]
