Is there any snow on the ground at all.If there is any snow to eat on the ground at all they will abandon standing water not sure about flowing water like rivers or creeks but up here even if the ponds or lakes are not froze over and there is snow it will be snow guaranteed. I have seen this and observed this for many years. Plus even pen raised deer I have had would do this.
