RE: Pa hunter numbers, is doomsday really here?
If it's surrounded by public land doug I doubt it's a deer haven.I didn't really question that piece of land I just wondered if you shot them in the mosh st forest because I've covered a good bit over the last few years and haven't found a half decent deer population yet.One problem is too many roads and easy access. There are a few pockets of good habitat where I hunt grouse but I see very little deer sign there also.
Wanna see a pathetic deer population take a drive down the state forest road to the right heading down the mountain on 322.It loops around onto mt zion road. There's snow there so you can see the tracks.Very thick laurel with mostly chesnut oaks and a couple of grassy fields. Some recent cuts in there too.The access is easy so it does get hunted.
As of now I wouldn't waste my time hunting deer in the mosh.Problem is they are slaughtering the doe on the private lands open to hunting.Hunters around us shoot anything that moves which makes for few deer lately.
