My little lad had his surgery on Monday. He'sdoing as well as could be expected (I sense an ass kicking somewhere in my future. I hope it's sooner than later while I can still handle his blows). He is resting easy. The doctors of Denver's Children's Hospital cut both his femur bones just below his hip joints. They re-aligned is left leg out 24 degrees and his right 30 degrees (both legs were twisted inward-net result of the stroke he suffered in uterus). They also lenghtened his right calf and hamstring muscles (imagine your hands, palm to palm, are the muscle. The doctors cut the muscle in half and then slipped one half past the other-the top of one half was stitched to the bottom of the other half). He was then placed in a hip spica style cast and will remain cast bound for six to seven weeks. When the cast is removed, he'll have six months of physical therapy two times a week. When I left the hospital last night, he was itching like a mad man. I guess the itch comes from a combination of the cast against his skin and the narcotics they're giving him for the pain. What a little tropper, and certainly daddy's hero! He was too cute. When asked by a nurse, "are you a big Broncos fan". he replied, "no, I'm a little Broncos fan". He's a heart breaker for sure!
