You should not have any problem getting a thumbhole stock for a Remington 700. I have went to a TH style stock on all my hunting rifles. There is no doubt in my mind that I shoot substantially better with a TH style stock. I do realize that sometimes you have to shoot off handed. But you can grip most thumhole stocks without putting your thumb in the stock. I have done it many times. As far as recoil is concerned. IMO TH style stock helps to reduce felt recoil. And also allows you to control the recoil better. Below are a few TH pictures. Tom.
