You should not have any problem getting a thumbhole stock for a Remington 700. I have went to a TH style stock on all my hunting rifles. There is no doubt in my mind that I shoot substantially better with a TH style stock. I do realize that sometimes you have to shoot off handed. But you can grip most thumhole stocks without putting your thumb in the stock. I have done it many times. As far as recoil is concerned. IMO TH style stock helps to reduce felt recoil.
