I love my 270 it put the deer down and I have complete confidence in it. Shot 130 gr bullets and watchem' fall. FOr your budget though rather then looking at an H&R I would check out the a Savage 111, a Marlin XL7, or a Stevens 200 like all the other guys said. Put some decent glass on it and start taking care of buisness.
