thanks for the response you have sparked my interest with this .280 ackley improved. I am looking into the cart. doesnt look much different then a 7mm rem mag ballistic wise. Can you buy a rifle in this cart. or would I buy a used long action rifle and take it to my gun guy to change barrell etc. to .280 ackley

Nosler makes a .280 Rem AI, but it's a real pricy semi-custom rifle. Thompson/Center makes Encore barrels in .280 Rem AI. Otherwise, you'd have to either rebarrel a rifle and have it chambered in .280 AI, or like swampdog said, you can have a rifle already chambered in .280 Rem reamed out to AI and set back. The .280 Remington is simply a .30-06 Springfield necked down to 7mm. The Ackley Improved version is just blown out (fire formed) to increase the shoulder angle to 40 deg (typically) and reduce the case taper which increases case capacity.
