The bullet goes in the sabot then you install the sabot/bullet combination up in the tube - nose of the bullet first. The speed loader then can be used as a short starter...

Here is a picture of what I am trying to say... I have not pushed the sabot/bullet all the way up into the holder - left it hanging out a bit so you could see it better... These are for 50 cal sabots... They use to make them for 54's also...

These red speed loaders are only good for about 110 grains of powder the black ones will hold 150...
