Thanks stalkingbear, I had a 1.5x4.5 weaver on my Ithaca 30/06 back in the early 70's but it got ruined in a house fire, I then replaced it with a 2.5x7 Weaver and it lasted for many years.
I ruined the lense's by cleaning them improperly, a costly lesson.
I now have a Weaver V-24 on one of my Savage 223 rifle's and it is great also.
I replaced the weaver v2.5x7 with a Simmons 3x9 and although not great it does what I need it to do. I also have a Simmons 3x9 on my Savage 270 and it also does just fine.
But I know that neither has the recoil of a heavy loaded 45/70 in a single shot rifle.
