I usually try to start with very small amounts and slightly increase the amount as I get closer to my stand. Reason behind this thinking is that the doe was at location A (starting point) and moving to location B (stand location) and giving off a stronger scent in her actual vicinity. I'm sure this is probably too logical for a buck in rut though...any slight smell will probably entice him just enough.
