Ok, there I was....
The night started just like all the other nights...nice lazy breeze in my favor for the stand I was using - squirrels making it impossible to hear but fun to watch to keep from nodding off - slightly overcast but spots of sunlight, just friggin beautiful....
.....about 2 hours in, boredom started to rear its ugly head and the wind picked up - folowed by a nasty direction change.....
.....straight into the swamp where the does bed and my hunt was just shot in the kiester.
Well, not soon after there came the neat little pitter-pat of feet...no way those could be squirels....
....time to mount the sharpie and get ready to lay the smack down on a doe...yay...
...NOT...it was a gaggle of turkey, oh well, I got a tag yet so why not with the wind going the wrong way and light almost gone.....yea, what the heck...
"
THWACK " - "
THUNK " - **insert explative here**
I missed.
"Go get your arrow before its too dark...." said the voices in my head, " ok, sounds good " I replied to myself.
Got down, got the arrow, cleaned the muck and leaves from it as the turkey laughed at me from afar.....then, all of a sudden.....
"
SNAP "
....my heart dropped and I turned around and was eye to eye with a mature doe at about 30 yards...for all of 1/2 a second before she did the brown eye wink and dissappeared.
I stood there in disbelief, holding the sharpie that should have just laced those bagpipes.....
Yea, me stoopid.
