RE: Shooting the 54. and other.
What I've done with dogs lurking in my hunting area is shoot right in front of them, splashing dirt and rocks all over them. They will generally vacate the premises. Last time I did that I had several deer come in to the food plot with in half an hour, with the dogs around they vanish. The deer in the areas I was hunting are use to shots being fired and don't normally react unless the shot was close to them.
