In your Dad's defense, he is right in a manner of speaking. If you just drop your arms down to the animal and not bend at the waist, you will shoot high. This is because your line sight changes. If you bend at the waist, this keeps your arms in correct form and your line of sight stays the same. Try it once and it will prove that I am right. Try shooting with just dropping arms and then bending at the waist. It will show you by where the arrows hits.

Just because I know this, doesn't mean that I never missed a deer real close. I actually hate shots under 10 yards. I'll take them though.
