I have to agree. The 270 can do ALMOST as much as the 30-06. And being that you already have an '06 you may want to drop down a notch. And since you want something more than the 243 you still have a ton of choices. Some that will take care of your tasks include the 260 Rem, 7x57, 7-08, 257 Roberts, 6.8 Rem. I'm sure I missed a few. These are all available in short action rifles which are generally lighter than your '06 but still plenty for what you want.
