got dug out yesterday and hunted today.
Finally after being snowed in for 8 days we were able to get dug out yesterday. I should have been fixing on the damaged fences and all the other stuff involved in the aftermath but decided to go hunting instead. Most of the places i go I still can't get to ,so I went 15 miles west back to an area where I used to live. my old neighbor said I could hunt. Around the alfalfa fields I saw at least a 100 whitetail does. But since I have till the end of January to hunt does and only 10 days left for bucks I decided to look for a buck. I saw one but couldn't get close and then he went to tribal land. I have to stay on deeded land. I went to the sandhills to look for Mulies. I saw quite a few. I could have shot a big 4 X 5 but he was facing away with only his butt toward me. He refused to turn and finally wandered off. I tried to follow but some does busted me. I saw one more mulie buck that was a shooter ( a 3X4 ) and a couple of fork horns. Lots of does . With time running out before I had to head back I lowered my standards and decided to settle for anything decent that presented a shot. As I was headed out I saw a big 5X 5 a bunch of does and a littler buck. I tried to stalk up on them. I circled around and up over the hill. When I got there I couldn't locate the big boy but there was a 3X3 heavy body and a real wide thick rack even though there weren't many points,
After being snowed in I wanted to hunt and not go home empty handed so I took the shot. He hunched up and just stood there, Finally after 15 minutes he fell over. I ranged it at 186 yards, but it was a fairly steep angle so it was probably less. 100 grains triple 7 ,250 gr. shockwave in my Triumph with a Nikon omega scope. If i can figure out how to put photos on here I will do that after I get back from Rapid City tomorrow.
