I have some Maxi-hunters that are a few years old and the borebutter has dried up. I took off the old cracked lube tonight. My question is, do these conicals have to be lubed to shoot well and if so, do I just use bore butter again to lube them. I tried to put some more bore butter in the grooves and it didn't seem to stick like it should. I am thinking I will be shooting the Maxi ball 370gr. or maybe just a patched round ball in my T/C Hawkens but I thought since I hade some laying around I might as well try them.I would really rather shoot one of the conicals if I can get them to shootgood.It has been a while since I have messed with this gun so any help is appreciated. I took the gun out of the closet tonight and gave it a good looking at. Not one speck of rust anywhere. It looks just like it did when I put it up. I did swab all of the borebutter out of it though and put a good coat of Birchwood Casey Sheath in the barrel. Ok I'm just talking now. What do you guys think?
