Sooooooo Close
After I cleaned up the Genesis, I grabbed by 45 caplock and headed out for thunder chickens. I only had an hour so I planned on walking a logging road that made about a mile loop. Just as I topped the first rise in the road (about 200 yds from the truck) one busted out of the briars alongside the logging road and started running down it - straight away. It really caught me off guard. I cocked the hammer as I was shouldering the rifle, pulled the set trigger and was just about to get the front bead on him when he rounded the bend. A few seconds later he took flight and flew up the mtn. I later jumped a nice deer. I watched it trot up the side of the mtn. And when it got skylined, I swore I saw a rack. Other than that, a couple squirrels. But a nice evening out anyway. Maybe next time.
