Default Still Hard At Work

Just rolled in from Huron County Michigan.

Here's a snap shot of my day.

AM Hunt:

I got out early this morning and had a good wind so I decided to sitan areawhere I had been seeing a 120 inch 8 point. Considered a shooter on this 550 acre piece that I hunt.

I rarely hunt on the ground but I was forced to this morning. I got situated about10 feet inside the woods in order to conceal myself as I over-looked a winter wheat field.

I had about 10 deer come out of an 80 acre corn field and cross in the winter wheat but nothing close enough to shoot. Meanwhile, I heard something behind me, and caught the glimpse of a buck at about 30 yards. I did a few short grunts and he was on it! He walked out of the woods toward the wheat field..And I brought my Hoyt to full draw as he passed behind a tree.......when he hit the wheat field he was 12 yards and looking the other way..the steam rose from his nostrils as I laid my pin behind his shoulder....NOPE...too small... he was a basket 8 (13 +/- inches)...I let down and he moved off...(Strict rules on bucks on this piece that we hunt)

Mid Day-

I saw several small bucks chasing doe(s) all around the property...While I was kicking coon poop from my gun blind I had a little six and a doe run by at about 40 yards.

Evening Hunt:

40 + deer in the bean stubble but no shooter bucks...My gosh!! I must of had 10 button bucks in my lap...I did have plans to take a big doe but I didn't have anything close enough. I can not believe how wise the big doe(s) are...I have the UT-MOST respect for these cautious ladies...I still think they're as tough to pull on as a 160 class buck...

No pics yet..but that was my Huron County Deer hunt today.

Great job to everyone...doe kills, big buck kills, good memories, either way....its deer season and we're all in our element now...This is OUR time.

Brian
