RE: Do you keep hunting as long as you have tags?
my hunting is different from most....
once bow season is over (nov 15th this year) the bow is likely done seeing the woods till next fall. but, i rifle hunt for 2 weeks...then the day after Christmas starts our late bow and flintlock season, in which i flintlock hunt for 3 weeks..(usualy EVERY day or close to it..im on break from college the whole time)
i choose not to bow hunt through rifle and the late season...i enjoy participating in deer drives through both seasons...and besides our small group, the pressure in my areas is very very high....deer simply do not move unless they are pushed out or its dark. after about noon on opening day of rifle season, chances of seeing a deer that isnt pushed out is slim to none...being very very alert and skittish is another major concern for a bowhunter.
even if i fill my tags and have what i want, i can continue to push for my buddies...i did that last year through rifle season...flintlock season i brought the flintlock out doe hunting. i push and sit in on the drives when i have a gun...when i dont, im a driver all day.
funny, but i use my drives to scout for deer. it can be an excellent way to scout...you find the beds, find the escape routes, and see ALOT of ground every drive...
so i really dont quit deer hunting till the very end of our deer seasons...5 weeks bow, 2 rifle, 3 flintlock...after 10 weeks, im usually more than ready for some spring gobbler action right around the corner! lol
