I think this article shows a .223 is capable of taking deer. I would agree it's not a cal. for inexperienced hunters. Federal makes a Nosler Partition as well. Stay away from FMJ's and ballistic tips. Shot placement is also important. Boiler room shots and neck shots are the ones you want to make. Good luck to you and your wife.
