We have a local shop around here that will let you try out a " few" shoots from a pistol or shotgun, indoor range so no rifles. When you shoot the 3rd or 4th different gun though he kind of expects you to buy one though. You buy the target and each round of ammo.

IMO for trying out a rifle hang around the range and see if someone will let you touch off a few rounds.
