Wow, that sounds pretty frightening! I hope you recover quickly. Tree stands are simply dangerous in my opinion. Too many people get hurt falling from them. I would never use one of those climbing types or screw in steps. I will only use stands that have aluminum or steel ladders or ladders made out of treated wood that is thoroughly inspected every so often. Ruining oneself for life is simply not worth any deer be it a trophy or the smallest of does.
