Default RE: Single lung shot

ORIGINAL: NCBloodtrailer

Has anyone ever hit a deer in the backstraps and seen it alive later on? How did the deer react?
I hit a deer high in the shoulder area years ago- though I was able to find the broken arrow about 40 yards 'down' the trail. I left him over night and went to search the next morning. There was A LOT of blood everywhere - on the ground (low), on tree trunks (high)... My buddy who was helping me track even said "this deer is hit good, he's dead".

About 200 yards into the trail the blood started to get hard to follow. I had to do circles from the last blood just tofind the next drop....He ended up doing amakinglarge cut back (semi U turn)to a large field edge. From there I lost the blood trail becuse the grasses had some type of red tint in it... I spent 2 moredays looking for the deer on my hands and knees crawling through thebest cover in the area. Never found him, or any more blood.

Exactlyone week later I was hunting the same stand and saw him again. In my case, I think he jumped the string on me and I hit him high - causing a flesh wound...I watched him in my bino's and I did see him turn his head and lick his shoulder area - but I couldn't see any visablewound. He seemed to be moving fine.
