Default RE: Distance Ethics?

When I' m shooting my stickbows, 20 yards is my max. I used to go to 30 when I had hair and no grey in my beard, but I' m not nearly as consistently accurate as I used to be. With my compounds, I' ll still shoot 30 yards. That' s with fingers, no sights and big 580 grain aluminum arrows loping along around 210-220 fps. With that setup, I can stack arrows right along with all but the very best sights/release shooters within 30 yards.

I' m good enough shot that I' ve won compound class in a couple of local 3D shoots, even shooting against guys with open class rigs. I could consistently hit a deer' s vitals out to 50 yards. But if I wanted to shoot that far on game I wouldn' t be hunting with a bow. I hunt more for the challenge than I do for the meat and getting close is the challenge I set for myself.

The only time I question someone else' s distance ethics is when they shoot at yardages where they consistently wound animals and don' t recover them.
