Swamp I didn't say anything about hunting summer feeding patterns.
You didn't have to, because what you were referring to is typically called a summer feeding pattern. At least thats what I and everyone I know has always called it.

The deer will stay in the summer/early fall patterns, typically until a crop source they feed on regularly is harvested, or the acorns start to fall. If the acorns fall early, then it will be acorns that break up that pattern. If they fall late, like they did/are this year in my area, then it will be the "rut" (the beginings of it anyway) that willbreak that established pattern. The feeding pattern I figured you were referring to, is the set and established feeding pattern that bucks tend to follow, prior to the fall... the summer feeding pattern. Toe-mat-toe, To-mat-oe...

To answer the question directly though, your chance of killing a buck on a good source of acorns, in SE VA is pretty decent so long as you do everything else right. Find the does, and you'll find the bucks usually in tow. The bucks aren't RUNNING does just yet, but they are following... and they are fighting too.
