RE: Anyone own a Garmin Vista or 76s?
I' ve got the vista also. The 24 meg of storage comes in handy to download numerous topo maps, waypoints, tracks and routes. The topos are great for backwoods hiking or hunting. But if you keep the maps on the gps, they will congest the towns/cities if you use the unit for highway travel. But that isn' t the unit' s fault. The barometric altimeter is used for advertising, but not really needed. It has to be reset when batteries are changed at a known elevation. The triangulation from the satellites do just fine and are fairly accurate. I like the compass but that has to be recalibrated with battery change also, but is easy to do. Screen definition is good. I wish it had external antenna capability but the only break in signal was during hiking at the base of a cliff. I' m happy with mine. Do some internet searching. There are some businesses out there that have good deals and Garmin is offering a $50 rebate I think. I got mine at teamgps.com. Currently they are 239 with the rebate.
