Well, she got her first deer ever. This is the first year that my wife has ever went hunting. She took my Genesis 50 cal. with 100 gr 777 and a 250 gr shockwave and open sights. I took my Lyman GPR 54 cal 90 gr 777 and a 425 gr hornady gp bullet. All day long we were skunked because of opening day of Pheasant season. It sounded like a war zone so I figured the deer were hiding in deep cover,. About 4:30 I took her to a public hunting area where the field that is conducive for pheasants is near the front but farther east is all trees and a draw that the deer use to funnel through, She set down at a tree and I went about 60 yards west and up on a hill in the corner of the fence line. It wasn't 10 minutes before 2 whitetail come across the fence about 40 yards from her. It was perfect position. They were walking right toward me when they stopped and looked at her. I knew she had been spotted. They stood staring and about 15 seconds later I heard her shoot. They both took off running. They went south and west , One appeared straight south from me and stopped looking back for the other one. I didn't have time to range the distance but I decided to take the shot. I saw her run west and crawl down in the weeds. I went and got Barb and we went to look. Didn't see a blood trail so we went to where I saw the one looking back. after about 2 minutes of looking I found a doe laying there. She hit her in the lungs ,liver and punctured the rumen also. It was a good kill for her first deer. Then we went about 30 or 40 yards yards and there was the one I shot. The bullet went right perfect behind the front leg, through the lungs and out the chest between the front legs with a massive exit hole. I ranged it with the rangefinder and it was 118 yards. If I had known that I never would have shot as I only have a peep sight, so I usually stay 75 yards or less. all in all it was a great day as we filled the freezer and we were both able to get a deer within a few seconds of each other. Now I have to teach her to field dress them instead of watching me do it
