When I was doing animal control this time of the year. Most baits with a strong fish odor seemed to work the best. Sun rendered fish oil, or shellfish oil works extremely well. Also Sardines put into a blender and made into a paste will also work. You may also try something along the line of a sweet smell, something with anise in it will work. Hope this helps you out some.
