Default Pursuit II XLT Short report

Just recieved my new rifle . Good looking gun with pretty good fit and finish .The rifle has a 28inch nickel finished fluted / ported barrel and black stock . Gave the bore a wiping and went out to shoot a few thru it . The breech plug come out easily with no tools, that feature is really great .

So far I have only been able to shoot at 50 yards . Have only tried Horandy 44 cal 240 gr and 300 grain XTPs . With the 240grain XTP 90 grains of FFg Goex black powder and a 209 cheddite primer accuracy was OK but not great . Changed over to XTP 300 grain with 90 grains FFg BP much better group, bumped it up to 100grains and was getting great results . Was shooting 3 leaf clovers from the bench . I want to see how this load will preform at 100 and 150 yards .

I do not understand why the less than stellar results with the 240 grain bullet. A friend told me I should be using muzzleloader 209 primers as they are milder ( ?? ) That my cheditte primer can be " pushing my bullet off the powder charge abit before it ignites "

Is he pullin my leg ?? Can a different primer make that much difference ?

will post more once I have time to shoot more.
