RE: Official Team Bone Freaks Thread (3)
Hunted this morning.....was quite the fiasco. Got out there and was getting partially dressed as usual when I realized I forgot my boots!! In a desperate attempt, I asked my dad if he would happen to have an extra pair but to no avail, I had to wear my slippers hunting this morning. Needless to say, my feet were a little cold and most of all, WET!! First off, I mentioned to my father that I always have trouble finding this tree stand the first time every year.....and sure enough, I had trouble. I ended up walking about 100 yards too far and had to back-track. Allthe while my feet getting more and more soaked in the dew-drenched grass. When I finally made the last 50 yard jaunt up the hillside and approached the stand, I set my scent lok facemask/hat combo on the first step until I got my bow hooked up and a couple things out of my pack. Of course, in all my thoughtfulness this particular morning, I left the hat/mask on the bottom step of my 20 foot climbing stick. So I now have cold, wet feet and my face sticking out like a sour thumb! Im not happy. As soon as I reach the top I get things adjusted in the tree, hoping for my luck to change. I prepare to put my leg in my scentblocker pants and here they come, a herd of deer come sauntering in under my tree, couldn't see them, but I knew they were deer. Right under my tree, but I couldn't make them out. So now, I must sit silently and let the, what sounded like, 8-10 deer pass under my tree and out of my world before I can attempt to achieve warmth!! After sun up, the action halted and I had no deer sighting until on the way back to the truck, a doe and yearling were feeding on the edge of the beans, and due to having basically socks on, very quiet footwear I might add, I was able to stalk into bow range, but really had no need for more venison. Was a very interesting morning, and oh yea to top things off, my dad, after I had warned him to stop leaning back so far, knocked my bow off the back of the atv while we were getting undressed and it bounced like a rubber ball off the nearly concrete soil!! No damage thankfully, and just thought I would share one of those mornings when nothing seemed to go right! Happy Hunting and don't forget your boots!!!
