RE: eyes...
mauser06;
First of all where are you at? What river or lake are you fishing? Walleye have a tendency to migrate a lot in lakes and rivers. They tend to be a more nocturnal fish then most species. Now don' t take this wrong, walleye can be caught in the day, but the the best walleye fishing in the day is in deeper water using jigs, or trolling spoons, crank baits, or crawler harnesses. And the bait if choice is either minnows, night crawlers, or leaches.
Walleye will migrate from deep to shallow water during the night, and follow a certain path to feed. If your fishing toward evenings, try a crank baits. I kind of favor the Rapalas, and change from the husky jerk to a regular 13 in the evenings.
Some nights they will only take the Husky jerks, other night they' ll only take the 13 regular. Why they do this is beyond me. The school of walleye will come into a certain area and feed like crazy for a few minutes, then leave the area. Then an hour later they' ll be back.
One trick we do here in Michigan, fishing Lake St. Clare. Is to use a three way swivel set up. You put a 2 foot lead, and a 4 foot lead on the swivel. Attach a crank bait like a Hot-n-Tot on the 2 foot lead, and a small spoon to the 4 foot lead. And troll that around 40 feet behind the boat. This is during the day. Toward evening we troll crank baits. Either Bombers or Rapalas, 65 to 70 behind the boat. We also cast the points and small bays on the lake.
I hope this will help you out. Good luck!
