Default RE: Cleaning my Kodiak

ORIGINAL: 5pointCal

I'm going to give my Kodiak one more thorough cleaning before Saturday. It seems I read somewhere that you could use Mean Green to clean it with. Could I use that on the breech plug as well as the barrell? Also, should I scrub the barrell with a brass brush or not? I've heard it isn't good for the barrell. Finally, will the T17 patches be sufficient to prevent rust in the barrell?

BTW, if anyone has any ideas on how to clean the part where the firing pin hits the primer, I'd be happy to listen.

Thanks to all. Your knowledge is invaluable.
Mean Green... I use a product called Simple Green which is like 409 and it works great. As for using a brass brush, I really do not think you have shot it enough to have a build up of any kind yet. The Mean Green you want to use will take the fowling and crud out.

As for rust... do not trust that Thompson Center product. Use a quality gun oil or some WD-40 even and protect the barrel with that.
