RE: marlin XL 7??
It looks to me, like a Savage 111 clone, hence the barrel nut and blade saftey style trigger. I own 2 savages(wood stocks) w/ accutriggers and they are solid rifles that I am very pleased w/. The barrel nut design leads me to believe you might even be able to swap out different savage barrels/calibers pretty easily but Im not sure.
American Rifleman magazine just gave a decent write on them, it said the stock was stiffer and a big improvment over most cheap injection molded stocks. Best 5 shot group was 1.39" ,(federal ammo 168gr BTHP)not too bad. I think, with a decent scope, youve got a pretty good rifle for the price. I'd buy one if I needed it. Good luck w/ it.
