Every fall (end of August), I've planted a 30 by 20 yard food plot in an opening in the woods with some rye, brassica and winter wheat combo. It grows very well after a few good rains. The deer stop to graze before heading into the corn and don't totally wipe it out until late October. It serves its purpose but I've thought about cutting down some of the smaller trees around to open it up to about 40 x 40 and plant something in the spring and fall. Any suggestions? Plant something in the spring that would be eaten down and then something new in the fall?

Any other enhancement ideas would be welcome as well. We have a slough in the middle of the woods that is a bedding area but I'm not touching that since they bed there and I don't believe I legally could with our wetland laws.

I have a couple of mineral sites out to and have spot planted the rye, brassica and wheat combo here and there in smaller openings that get sun all day and the deer do meander through almost all of them.
