Well, having the bbl that has the "highest" pressure round on the bottom is better for the action... It allows you to fire higher pressure rounds, like a 30-06.
I don't have one problem with the rifle bbl being on the bottom of my Valmets, and i can easily/quickly regulate the rifle bbls to any point of aim i want.
Sighting the slugs in at 50 or 75 yards, and then regulateing the rifle at 100 works out just fine on a big game gun. I've had no problem making some fairly long shots with the rifle bbls on my combo's, and i'm completely satisfied with there performance.
I have no use for see through mts. on any of my guns... I much prefer to have a reliable quick detach mount system, that allows me to take the scope off or put it on at any time with it going back to zero perfectly...
It just wouldn't cost Savage that much more to do it right in the first place... The Savage 2400's (made by Valmet)Savage sold, had it 99% right, all they have to do today is copy those guns!
