Default 8 pt down

Wednesday I had a chance for an eveninghunt and I had high hopes with the cold front thathad came through earlier in the week. I had not seena deer in my last 3 sits andi wasthinking that hunting would not get good until they cut the corn on the farm i hunt. I had been watching a squirell all afternoon that was in the tree next to me i lost track of him and heard something from my over my left shoulder. I carefully turned to luck at what i thought was the squirrel when i saw this 8 pointer eating acorns. I thoght he was perfectly broadside and at 13 yds. I thought this would be a perfect oppertunity for a heart shot so i settled my pin in the crease and let it rip. My heart sank when i heard smack and saw quite a bit of my arrow sticking out of the shoulder. He ran 40 yds, stopped and looked at the arrow and he was pumping blood so i felt a little better. I got down after 30 mins an immediatly backed out and waited for my buddy to get their. We waited a while so it was about an hour and a half before we started to track it. The blood trail was great and we bumped it within 25 yards of where i saw him stop and look at the arrow. We decided to try and sneak up on him and get a follow up shot on him because he was notable to run very far and by the time i found him he couldnt stand up but still very alive so i finished him off with another arrow through the boiler room.
Lesson learned shoot for the lungsand not try to make the "shot". I also realized that he was taking a step that caused his shoulder blade to enter where i was aiming. This was my first time hunting with slick tricks and i am impressed with them since I messed up and they still did the job.
This is my 5th deer in 3 years of hunting and this is my 4th with a bow.
