Ihunted yesterday (antlerless only/Special Regs)for the first time this season! What a great experience it was!I just sat down in my stand (3:00PM) for an evening hunt, and pulled up my bow when I caught movement to my right. Here comes a small 4pt feeding his way in my direction. He walks to the base of an oak that is 20ft in front of me, and starts eating the leaves from the Devels Walking Stick (very thorny little tree)that I had trimmed for a shooting lanethe day before. I didn't even know they eat that stuff!
Anyway, this guy fed in front of me for more than an hour. It was neat to watch how he reacted to various things. I was watching him watch some workers who were making noise not more than 100yrds away. They would make noise, he'd look in their direction, then go back to feeding. Then came a loud clap of thunder, which didn't seem to phase him much. He was the only deer I saw before I was forced to leave because of HEAVY rain that moved through, but I had a GREAT time watching him for soooo long. This is the best way to learn about deer behavior as far as I'm concerned. COME ON SAT!!!!
